Product details

Control and power up to two fermenters at different temperatures and fermentation schedules with the GC2. With the ability to individually power and control the temperature of up to two Grainfather Conical Fermenters, each with their own fermenting schedules, the Grainfather GC2 Glycol Chiller is the perfect addition to ensure craft brewery-like results.

With the addition of the Glycol Chiller, your system is operating at the ultimate level and you are even able to cold crash and lager. The cooling sleeve is located in between the two stainless steel walls of the Conical Fermenter which is then hooked up to the Glycol Chiller. Temperature is dialed into the digital temperature controller and the liquid travels through this sleeve, cooling the stainless steel which in turn cools the beer in the fermenter. The cooling sleeve never comes into contact with the beer, is completely concealed and does not need cleaning or sanitizing - a true innovation for a fermenter on this scale.

Please allow 1-3 weeks for delivery, as the Grainfather Glycol Chiller and Glycol ships directly from the vendor.

Features:

  • Compatible with the Grainfather App when connected to a Grainfather Conical fermenter or the GCA for managing your fermentation from anywhere via Wi-Fi.
  • Allows you to cold crash 6 gallons of wort to as low as 40ºF
  • Allows you to cold crash, lager, and control fermentation at low temperatures (as low as 40ºF)
  • Cools and powers up to 2 Conical Fermenters at different temperatures and fermenting schedules. (separate connection kit is required for each additional conical fermenter)

GC2 Initial Review

Know this device is a luxury. I had been fermenting using the GF conical for ~5 years before I bought this. When I made lagers, it was a challenge. I'd have to keep the fermenter in the garage in the spring (for my Maibock - I live in MN btw) and for my Oktoberfest in the Fall I'd have to constantly feed a bucket of ice water so that the little chiller pump it came with could do its job.

I was ready to upgrade after years of this, and it was on sale, so I said why not? I wasn't disappointed. I'll admit, I've only done one brew, but it did its job without issue. It kept the glycol cold at all times just in case, and immediately tripped on (the pump) when the conical controller told it to. It cools REALLY quick too - much faster than included chiller pump (w/ the GF conical). I also recently just used it to cold crash a beer before transfer into a keg. I was amazed with how fast it brought it from 70 degrees to 40 (we're talking a few hours - and that was with me doing a slow "step down" approach).

My only "complaint" is that the included directions are not great for getting it ready for its first use. Mainly for priming the pump. When I did it there was some swearing and leaked water... Additionally the touch-sensitive buttons are really sensitive. For example, placing my arm on the top of the unit to brace my balance turned the pump on when the port was open... not good. Yeah you can "lock" the screen, but who has time for that? Physical buttons would have been nice. These are all really minor issues though.

This is a luxury

I built my own cooling setup and learned a valuable lesson: temperature control has value. So after all the testing and tasting I knew the results would be worthwhile. So i saved up the money and bought this unit to replace my janky temp controller.
I am very pleased with this unit. It has helped me produce beer that is consistently better than previous brews.
